NCBC Stories Collection

The generous supporters and alumni of Northern California Bible College have fueled 50 years of instilling God's Word, and His Spirit, into the hearts of a myriad of students. Below is a glimpse of how God is using NCBC to make disciples in the Bay Area and beyond.

Lisa’s Story

This story is part of the NCBC Alumni and Joanna Scholarship Stories Collection. Fund another story with your generous gift.

I signed up for NCBC because all my dreams about serving God were “one day”. I was also a hot mess Christian and wanted to know more about God and my one day needed to be THAT DAY. I was seeking Him in every way, shape, and form. NCBC was a significant part of the journey to be healed and WHOLE. And I am.

I grew closer to God in a big way! However, the day I graduated with my bachelor’s degree from NCBC, was the day I felt that I knew less than when I began. That is the beginning of wisdom. I realized I had barely scratched the surface of everything that God is and was and is to come! (See what I did there) Thank God I am in the Master’s Program and still learning!

Meanwhile, I am not part of a Big Ministry, although I am on the Prayer team at my church in Vacaville, The Mission. I am honored to be on the team. It’s my first time on a prayer team. It is a huge deal to be trusted to pray for the hurting, hungry, sick, etc. and I take it seriously. I feel like I am following the footsteps of Graham Cooke, in a way… (being that he attended my church for 10 years). I am USUALLY obedient to walking the path that God has set out for me. I obeyed the still small voice and I learned later it was a good thing I did.

The best part of NCBC for me is that I KNOW how to study the Bible and look up scriptures. I usually know what is in the Bible. If I am in a conversation with a non-believer, I can simply say, “The Bible says…” OR “that is not in the Bible”. I then can look it up to get the exact chapter and verse. Of course, in a humble way. I have a heart for God. I have a heart to inspire or encourage people, hurting or not hurting.

I write a blog. I give lots of credit to NCBC for this blog because I am able to pull up scriptures for my stories. I have been writing it for about 2 years now. I want to be a witness for Jesus or a light. So, I do “almost” ALWAYS add scripture to anything I write. Sometimes I just take photos of my surroundings and add scriptures to the photos, like a Bible story. It is fascinating to me how my photos work well with scripture!

Recently, I have been sharing my Theology homework on my blog. It has been a big hit! It is amazing to me that people from other countries read it. I write as if I know my audience. And I do know a few. I only have 36 followers, but I am ok with that. And it is sometimes people who do not follow me that read. The other day, one of my readers (follower) said that I brighten her life with my inspirational blogs. I love that because there is a seed of Christ planted in her soul when I write. One of my readers passed away and I was very sad. But I am encouraged that she was hungry to hear and know about God. She often had questions.

One day, my kids will read my blog. They will grow in Christ. They will be able to know Christ. My blog is my legacy for my family. It is also funny that sometimes I go back and read what I wrote, and I am encouraged. Like the timing is God’s timing for me to have hope with what I said maybe a year ago. (sometimes I correct a misspelled word, lol).

I guess the most important thing to me that NCBC helped me with is my blog. To be a light in a fallen world using the training I have had and still have from NCBC!

As I sometimes end my blog. “Jesus loves you and so do I!” ~ Lisa L.
